I've just got a new HDD and put Vista 64 HP on it and was intending on importing everything from my old HDD before wiping it and using it as a backup/music storage drive but I've ran into a problem. As the old drive was ran with XP it had a different user profile, therefore I need to change the security setting/owner of every single file before it'll let me move it. This'll take me hours as there's a lot there (emails, music, documents etc). Is there an easier way to do this that won't take hours?

Short of using the old drive to boot another PC and then shifting the data across a LAN the easiest way is to just reset the ownership. It shouldn't take that long to reset all the file ownerships, just leave it going and go for dinner/watch TV/go to bed.

If you are logged on to your Vista system with admin rights you shouldn't have any problems copy any files from any additional hard drive. So I would make sure you have administrator rights when you try and copy the files.
