Task Manager not reporting CPU speeds correctly?

Just curious. Noticed a discrepancy between Taskmanager and HW Monitor.

My CPU is OC to 4.3Ghz. wondering why task manager is reporting incorrectly? Does it go on a % use type scenario and then just estimate speed from that?

This is EXTREMELY Common with windows task manager, use CPU-Z + HWMonitor to get the correct clocks

Thanks, yeah I usually do . Never use Task manager but just happened to have it open to check my RAM usage and saw the discrepancy.

Weird. Task Manager is accurately (or so it seems) reporting the real-time average clock speed of all 4 cores here.

its down to power saving settings in the bios. to show oc clock speeds all the time there is some you need to disable.

does the same on windows 7 unless bios settings are disabled like C stepping or c state I think is one of them

task manager isn't very accurate, been in there a few times and seen 6ghz+

I remember it was a hassle to verify that my CPU would ever shift gear to its maximum Turbo Boost frequency. I think writing the code to do accurate general-purpose hardware monitoring must be a bit of a dark art.

Working pretty close here (my CPU OC is 4.19 GHz)

Windows has been doing this since windows 8. It just doesn't seem to see the correct speed of overclocked CPUs. Windows used to show my 2600k as being 5.9ghz O_o
