Task Manager Problem

I've got a kind of weird problem with task manager. I built a new computer this summer, and since I loaded windows task manager hasn't been displaying anything in the user name column of the processes section. Isn't it meant to say either system or my user name? It's not a major problem but it's been annoying me for a while. Here's a screenshot:

Anyone know if there's anything I can do?

I'm just wondering if you have ticked the appropiate option in WTM?

Yep, I have that ticked. If I clear it the user name column just goes away.

right click my computer, then manage then users and groups

you probbley didnt put your full name in the name bit did you ? (the field next to the username)

That only works for XP Pro doesn't it? In computer management I don't have any option for users and groups. What's the equivalent for XP Home?

could be something else then

you can change it in user and passwords in control panel

or goto run and type in

control userpasswords2

Thanks for the ideas FishThrower. I tried entering my full name in control userpasswords2 but it's still not working unfortunately

Not too sure how you do it on the Home Edition

Is there a way for it to tell you whos logged into the machine?

on the pro version you can go in CMD (command prompt)

and type in

net user

It sounds like the machine doesnt know who is logged onto it, usually its something to do with the account. Can you create another user account and see if it does it in there as well?

C:\Documents and Settings\Rhys Miles>net user

User accounts for \\RHYS

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Administrator ASPNET Guest
HelpAssistant Rhys Miles SUPPORT_388945a0

Start > Run > CMD

echo %username%

That displays current user logged in.

Mine did that on last build, just checked now and it's showing my name again.

I tried that, and I get very similar results to what you get. My full name is second in the list.

I tried creating another account as well, but I'm getting the same problem. I tried echo %username% and it gives me my full name. This is weird :mad:

Isn't this to do with the RPC service not started or not running correctly? I'm sure this was one symptom of the Sasser worm...

I hope not... I've just done an in-depth scan with NOD32 so I'm guessing I don't have Sasser. Would the RPC service not start for any other reason?

sorry mate but i have ran out of ideas

Reason why I think its a user account problem is that on one of the processes it says SYSTEM on the username tab
