Good afternoon all,

With Christmas fast approaching me and thee are looking at buying a coffee machine however can't make our minds up which one?

What do you guys say?

Nespresso the better quality drink?

I have Nespresso and for what they do are really good.

But...... if you are using it more than 2-3 times a day they get too expensive. Also only get the Nestle capsules the unofficial ones are very poor.

But for 20 a second espresso before going to work you can't beat them imo.

I disagree that its too expensive. Tassimo discs are £3.89 for 16 at my local supermarket, but if you want any milk based drink its over £4 for 8 drinks worth. If you just drink Americanos or Espressos its slightly cheaper, but id much rather pay the extra few pence a cup for Nespresso as the quality of the coffee is way better than Tassimos offerings.

coffee pods + quality in the same post

There's always one :)

My arguement is this, IN MY OPINION the coffee I get from my Nespresso is better than any espresso blends available in supermarkets, its better than any coffee chain and better than most restaurants. I used to drink instant coffee, but now I cannot tolerate it at all since im used to my nespresso. I can't tolerate Starbucks or Costa, however there are a few local coffee shops that I can still get a nice coffee out of.

If I were to get my freshly picked beans, grind them myself with my finest burr grinder to millimetric precision, then expertly tamp the coffee with the correct pressure before using my £££ espresso machine to get the pressure and temperature right, I would no doubt get the best coffee imaginable. But all other coffee would taste like mud in comparison.

I would no longer be able to get a nice enough cup of coffee at work or when im out and about, as nothing would compare to the delicious nectar I could prepare at home. Ignorance is bliss as they say, I'll happily take my nespresso rather than burden my taste buds with perfection.

I absolutely love the Nespresso and bought it for the wife a few months back. Cannot get over how incredible the coffee tastes, to the extent that I feel I'm spoiling/jading myself by even making one. Even one of the self proclaimed coffee connoisseur lads at work said he really enjoyed it... granted he is Columbian.

Make sure you pick up the milk frother too, trust me, it's worth it.

I can understand the appeal of those sort of coffee machines - quick, relatively clean and minimal effort required. I think the coffee they make is ok, it's not amazing, but neither is it limp and body-less. For a non enthusiast or someone who wants a bit more than just an instant coffee - it does the job. I personally wouldn't touch one with a barge pole, but they do fill that gap, and makes sense for a lot of people. :)

I'm actually tempted to get something like this or a cheap espresso machine for the office. Anything as a change from the watery coffee they serve here :p

people always get this wrong by comparing the pods with home ground fresh coffee,

you should be comparing it with instant coffee, which it is so much nicer to drink than

I was given a dolce gusto machine for a present and for espresso and americano's its pretty good

im sure the nespresso is nicer however, but machines are twice the price and can only get the pods online (unless things have changed?)

I've used both and Nespresso is far better tasting Coffee. The only reason why Tassimo or other systems may benefit some is that they do drinks other than coffee.

Tassimo pods are available in supermarkets. I believe Nespresso is the only pod which isn't and has to be purchased online, in Nespresso stores or boutique stockists.

Nespresso is also far better than Starbucks and most high street coffee places, only a good cafe will do better.

I would buy a nespreso machine but in the US the pods are hard to get a old of while getting fresh coffee beans from a supermarket is easy.

And that is why an opinion is not an 'argument', merely an opinion, no-matter how wrong :D

The quality and freshness of the coffee is the important thing. If you use a good method, eg pre-heating cups/pots etc, correct coffee quantity/water temps and standing/brewing times, then you can make a superb cup of coffee with just a cheap cafetiere/French press.:)

Just what everyone wants to do first thing in the morning ;)

It's pretty quick once you've got it down, only 5-10 mins I suppose. I make mine at work anyway so the little extra time it takes over a Tassimo is irrelevant to me, for me a decent cup of coffee will always win over a fast/convenient but ultimately poor cup.;)

I just bought my brother a senseo machine from argos £99.99 down to £39.99.

Now on the hunt for a decent mixed pod set for under £10

I know with this machine you can use pods available from Lidl and you can buy an coffee duck for to start using loose ground stuff.

I've had my Tassimo nearly two years now, it's great. I'm not a coffee expert, nor do I use it each and every day (it'd be quite expensive to do that), but as a 'treat' a few times a week it's fairly economical and I like the drinks it makes. My parents lived in Canada until recently too, so they brought me back a variety of Canadian Tassimo discs that aren't available out here.
