TAT problem

I removed my cpu heatsink today because it was clogged with dust. When i put it back on and ran TAT, i got some weird results. It said the chip temperature was 65 degrees, but that one core was at 82 degrees and the other was jumping between -45 and 85+. Also, the frequency was jumping all over the place. I knew something wasnt right so i had another look at the cooler. The two pins on one side of it hadnt snapped through the hole in the motherboard so only one side was making a good connection with the processor. Now i`m getting more logical results. I`m idling at about 48 to 50 degrees (down from 55 to 60) but one core always seems to be one degree hotter than the other. Could this be because one side is making better contact? I thought the cores were one on top of the other? And how the hell does my heatsink have anything to do with TAT? Surely if i left it off altogether, TAT could still report temperatures?

Its normal, one core us usually a wee bit hotter than the other, i'd actually consider something being wrong with the software if both were always the same temperature :D also remember the temp will vary on load to each core , other variables are one core just plain hotter or one having better contact with the IHS etc.. quite a few Opteron cpus i had varied by as much as 10C between cores due to bad IHS installation at the factory, you've got nothing to worry about.
