Just had a tattoo done a few hours ago. The artist recommended Bepanthen to rub on it 4-5 times a day. However all the chemists are closed and didnt see it at tescos, are there any alternatives ppl can suggest? Preferably from previous tattoo aftercare experience and not just someone spouting rubbish

yeh nappy rash cream is good, i have used different things on all 8 of mine, i used vaseline on 2 of them they came out fine but took longer to heal! but if you can get to a chemist tomorrow to get bepanthan i would use vaseline for now instead of wasting money on nappy rash cream

It's strange, some people get told different advice, friends of mine were told not to use bepathen as it's too oily, just as I was told not to wrap mine in cling film, whereas others are.

the key things I've found tend to be don't let it dry up completely, but don't smother it with ay creams every half hour either, just a light amount of cream every now and then.

don't rub/scratch it, for obvious reasons, it'll be itrritating for a while, but deal with it :p you want the scab to stay on for a long time and heal naturally so don't pic if bits are coming away

and don't wash it/get it wet in the bath/shower for pretty much a month

I'm sure the more experienced tattoo crew on here will have more/better advice too, there's a thread on showing tattoos too courtesy of Sash, have a look and stick yours in there :)

I would personally wait and get Bepanthen. They use and recommend it because it soothes the skin, but allows it to breath at the same time. It's a miracle cream on tattoo's.

Edit: and to clean it, I was recommended by a mate to use the Savlon Anti-Septic spray. One spray and dab (not wipe) off with cotton wool pads. My tats came out alright from it all.

Managed to get some bepanthen in a random shop, huzzah!

Out of curiousity how should i be applied? I thought it would be fairly thin but u really need to rub it in, just light pressure and circular motion?

Thank you for the suggestions

+1 for Bepanthan. Used it on all of mine. I normally just put a thin layer on I just rubbed in one direction, don't suppose it matters as long as you don't pick any bits off.

Keep it out of sunlight for too long while it heals and also avoid the gym (if you go), doesn't happen to everyone but you can really wreck a tattoo if it stretches while healing.

Bit of an after question also, mac1st3 u mentioned avoid exercise? Im injured so cant hit the gym anyway but u reckon its grand to play footy? Its not really in a spot that will be a problem but definitely dont want to mess my first tat up

Savlon, savlon and savlon.

Savlonnn is bad pulls the ink outta ya tattoo...

Bepanthen is what ive used on all of mine :/ never really considered any other alternatives. so i wouldnt be able to say which is best...
but never put savlon on it no0o0o!

just a thin layer in one direction attempting to resist the urge to pick the scabs off :/ ;D

I just used the tattoo goo stuff, and I've never been told to cover mine up with cling film or paper towels after taking the cover they put on it first, off.

I use tattoo goo but it is a bit pricey, I always had a plentiful supply because of how much my ex had/used

No chemist place i ntescoes (or some other 24 hour place) a few of them have a proper counter etc for it.

I have the bepanthen sorted as mentioned above. Im just concerned whether I should skip footy or not?

Hello mate here is a trick cover the tattoo in some bepanthen and cover the whole tattoo up with some cling film and tape and keep It like that for 6-7 days, washing It daily and putting more cream on and covering It back up.

It will heal a treat, give footie a miss for tonight as you'll sweat and It'll come off.

I've always used E45 on my tatts, and never covered them either (one on arm, one on back). Both look great still.
