When the previous owner got the tax disc made, they got it made when the private plate was on the car.

The private plate is no longer on the car, how do I go about fixing this problem?

Do I need to go to the post office with the MOT/Insurance/Tax disc and tell them and they will issue a new one?

The registered keeper should have fixed this problem when he had the plate transferred off the car. He will have been provided with the correct tax disc. The tax disc you have now is meaningless and technically illegal to use.

You can request a duplicate from the local DVLA office, though - if you visit them they will issue you one then and there.
