Tax/Insurance rant

So this is fun - I've got a YBR sat in my garage, SORN'd. My little sister takes her CBT and I offer her the use of the bike. So yesterday, I help her set up insurance, the plan being that I would tax it today and she could go for a little ride this evening, because surprisingly enough, she can't wait. So around midday, I log onto the DVLA site and begin the process, and get a message that its not on the MID database yet. Fair enough I think, I'll wait until later. Only it now says that I must wait 24 hours before trying again. So now, despite the fact that shes insured, despite the fact that I am perfectly happy to pay the ****ing money for the tax disc, I CAN'T because of ****ing bureaucracy. And of course I could go to the post office, but for the fact its opening hours only allow the retired and the unemployed scrubs to go down there because those of us that go out to earn our keep have office hours that are the same as the post office. To top it all off, I've checked MID and its now showing the bike IS insured, so if they would have ****ing warned me up front to check MID first, that it would lock me out for 24 hours, this whole ****ing thing could have been avoided.

I'm sure I'm about to get a chorus of ignorance about how I'm overreacting and that this is all perfectly reasonable. Well I don't ****ing care. The fact of the matter is that in a few hours I get to go and look at my little sisters face while it goes from excited to disappointed. **** you DVLA.

I hear you pal.

In this day and age. Tech is still crap

However paying for your tax online wont give you a tax disc today
The offence is still failure to display (whether you have one or not) so looks like a trip to the OAP club anyhow

How much was it to insure you as main and your Sister as named?

And yes I still go to the OAP club so I get my tax disc there and then!

Didn't actually look if I'm honest, I won't be riding it, so she just took out a policy in her name. I'll be signing the bike into her name once the rest of the paperworks sorted, so that its all legit.

Ah fair play. I thought you were going to stay named on the V5 and your Sister insure it in her name making a no no with you joyful friend Mr. DVLA :D

I thought you could purchase a tax disc online and then have 5 days before it has to be displayed?

At least thats what I've always done and I'm sure its fine as its on the database as soon as you purchase it.

I'm pretty sure you've got 5 days grace before they chase you for being untaxed but there's still no grace period when it comes to the offence of not displaying a disc, or something daft like that.

Would be on the data base so when pulled no problem also five days grace.

Neighbour called police on a car parked in the street with no tax displayed and police said not a problem because it had five days grace.

Years ago we used replace the tax disc with tax in the post sign or a Guinness label :D

Ignorance doesn't mean what you think it means.

The post Office is open on Saturdays.

This thread wasn't worth posting.

The 5 days grace is only for an annual renewal, not for taxing a previously SORN'd vehicle.

Tell you what, I'll go look up ignorance in the dictionary while you look up 'rant' and we'll come back and decide whose post was the most pointless...

I am quite happy with the definition of rant, what's your point?

My post is only pointless because its in this thread.

No he was right about his post showing Ignorance; The belief that only unemployed and retired can get to the post office during the week and that everyone that works does the same hours as he has chosen to do is a shining example of such.

I'm very sure that's not what he meant by 'I'm about to get a chorus of ignorance about how I'm overreacting'
