Its not guarenteed but this is a high chance of it and if you do you will pay import tax which varies depending on what the item is plus vat on top of that and then usually a nice little charge from the courier

Depends! If the package has been declared at under the value of $100 and marked as a gift by the sender then there will be nothing to pay.

But if not then I believe you should expect to pay the VAT 17.5% of the item. I have done quite a few times :(.. bloody customs. By some couriers (parcel force) they actually hold the item until you pay the fee.

ok, could someone please do there maths :) found this on the website

Tax and Duty Charges

Customs law requires that all applicable Duties and Taxes must be paid for shipments entering the UK. By placing an order with DrJays.com, you agree to pay the duties and taxes charged by Customs at the time of delivery. Customs duty and Value-Added Tax (VAT) will be payable, as follows:

* Customs duty – Typically 12-20% of product price (based on product characteristics)
* Tax – Typically 17.5% of total order cost (including shipping cost)
* Advancement Fees – FedEx fee for processing of duties/fees (currently $8.00 USD)

So you have to pay tax AND Custom duties.....WTF...bit of a rip off.....so someone do there maths on £30 im no good :( even with a calculator :p

An item marked as $100 will still be charged VAT, as its over the ammounts listed below (copied from the offical HMRC site).

No. Customs duty is waived if the amount of duty is less than £7.

Import VAT is not payable on:
commercial consignments eg goods purchased over the internet with an intrinsic value not exceeding £18, but this does not include alcohol, tobacco products, perfume or toilet waters

gifts, excluding alcohol, tobacco, perfumes and toilet waters, with a value not exceeding £36 and which comply with the rules shown in paragraph 2.4.g

Also, items baught from a online store can NOT be classed as gifts.

the gift has been sent from a private person outside the EU to a private person(s) in this country

there is no commercial or trade element and the gift has not been paid for either directly or indirectly
