think religion should be banned! its a joke, and as they say religion is the root of all evil.

Disclaimer - "imo :)"

How can you tax something that doesn't really make any money of it's own? Presumably churches are funded by donations and partly by the government. So it would make more sense to cut government funding rather than give them money then demand some of it back.

churches have a lot of money squirrelled away

Yeah it's from putting the fear of religion into people over 100's of years, people die and leave all there money to the church as they think it will get them get into heaven!

Sad really

Churches used to own a majority British of land which it let out to make money. The Church of England still owns a lot of land and still makes a fair bit of money this way, which iirc is taxed. Thus your post sir is pointless.

On the ban all religions note. Please explain to me how you would do this? I mean the Christian faith was banned from its conception for hundreds of years. Now it is one of the biggest religions in the world.

How did they get that land in the first place, in terms of the Church of England they got lots of Land from Henry VIII when he decided he didn't like the Pope any more (as he liked divorcing and then killing his wives) and decided to give Catholics the boot.

One elitist group gives another elitist group lots of land, never mind that the poor average joe lived in squalor under the boot of a respressive church and state.

The church and state worked together to keep themselves rich and keep the peasants down.

The chuch burnt witches who were very knowledgable about herbal medicine, now we know very little about herbal medicine.

That sounds like something a Witch would say!!!!!!!! Burn him!

Seriously, did you know it is blasphemy to deny the existence of witches. I would be careful with what you say

So there are many religions many religion, the two I know anything about are Catholocism and Christianity, until recently nether of these two religions have really had too much to shout about in terms of caring for their flock. Until recently religion was about control of the masses by the elite and keeping the peasants in check, in recent times the Church has been seeking to reinvent itelf with a friendly face.

Has the OP been eating lead paint chippings?

On another note - as the majority of the western world has secular government, with a separation of church and state, we are somewhat free of religion led feudalism.

As for taxing religion - I believe they enjoy charitable status as far as the Inland Revenue is concerned.

I can verify this.

Being as they operate as non-profit organisations, it seems perfectly fair to me.
