Off to Paris on Friday for a week. The Hotel is some 23Miles from CDG airport and we’re obviously going to need a taxi there. Having never been there I'm worried I’ll get ripped off because I don’t know realistically how much to expect to pay.

Can anyone give me a rough estimate?

As long as you get a licensed cab (just walk outside the terminal and join the mile long queue) you won't get ripped off.

When I used to take a taxi from CdG to Lisses (70km or so), it was about £70 but that was always on Monday mornings when the traffic was at its most evil.

If you're going to Paris get the RER B into the centre of town or the bus (Roissybus) to Place de la Madeleine/Opera in the centre of Paris. Taxi drivers in Paris are really nothing on London ones.

I used to do this every week and generally it's fine, but now I use the Eurostar every week instead.

def use the metro and the rer

metro is underground fast bus on tracks basically, comes every 5 mins and is bombing fast at starting + stopping! and cheap too like €4 ish for that journey i'd guess.. its def the best way to travel around paris, the roads are a NIGHTMARE

rer is a train service that meets at a lot of the metro stations so its for the longer journeys (disney land paris + airport)

it'll take you about 2 mins to work out how it all works

look at that link the letters represent the RER train, and the numbers represent the metro service.

all the lines run both ways, and each 'dot' represents a stop, if there's multiples lines at one dot or junction then thats where you can jump onto another line (using the same ticket)

which part are you going to?

was there for 3 days in the summer with the mrs, really had a cool time :)

seriously tho, roads are a no go..

In Paris the taxis usually add a cost when they change zone. CDG is in Zone 5, so if you are going into Paris centre-ish (zone 1-2), it can be quite pricey.

It depends where exactly you are staying though, as how you want to get there.
The trains are very frequent into the centre of paris, and you can get a metro from stations there. Unless you are carrying a huge quantity of luggage just do that.

Use http://www.ratp.info/informer/anglais/index.php to plan your train/metro journey.

Edit: Paris is not zone 3 ;)

You should also get a Carte Orange zone 2 pass if you are staying for a week. All the metros in paris and suburbs are classed as zone 2.
Also if you don't speak french, the lonely planet phrase book is surprisingly useful.

Not relevant to what the OP is asking, but if you're flying into CDG.. all I can say is  at the materials used to construct the airport (i.e. its concrete ugly!).. makes Heathrow look really good.

Think I should go Paris again one day.. miss the nice fresh bakery goods from the supermarket in the morning :(

Another vote for the Roissybus or train. Personally used the bus on a number of occasions with the Mrs and it's safer than a taxi, at least you keep your lunch down on the bus.

Maybe that's just bad experiences on my part with French taxi drivers.

You get your bread from supermarkets when in Paris! What's wrong with the bakers? I suppose some are OK though :) and all of them are better than what you can find in the UK.
