Hey all! Yesterday I put the deposit down on a Mk5 mk2.5!

Went to collect today, filled in the log book etc with the previous owner and the green slip for me.

Then we went to tax it and it asks for the 12 digit number but the one on our form and the log book are both 11 digits so the online system wouldn't accept it.

I'm thinking surely I can do it at the post office instead? Anyone else encountered this?

yep cant remember but you have to put another digit first i think 0 or 1 , had same problem with focus when we bought it

Might be a daft question but are you definitely using the new keeper code from the green slip and not the doc ref no from the V5? :)
No such thing as a daft question with this mate, I was going mad trying to figure it out but nope it's 11 digits on both and I was indeed using the greenslip at the time

Also didn't realise you can do the whole v5 change owner thing online now too so that would have been better but we did the classic way and the previous owner is posting it in

Congrats on the new car, there shouldn't be an issue taxing a vehicle with the new keepers green slip i've done it 3 times this year. But maybe your green slip is from an old logbook or something with it only having 11 digits?

I think what happened is he has 2 log books, one old style and one new.

He made an error on one of them when filling it out so used the other one instead as we couldn't see why we had 2 in hand as they were both extremely similar.

Turns out the one with the mistake made was the more recent style, and the one we filled out and completed was the older style.

I realised this last night after some digging and contacted him but it's already been posted.

(I'm a bit clueless on all this stuff, but also found the v5 changes could have been done online)

So now with the old style log book in the post, I'm wondering what the DVLA will do. Will they bounce it back to him, as they will know he has been issued a more modern one. Or will they just update it and send me a new upto date one regardless.

Bit of a mess

I actually have the full more modern one in had (with the errors made in writing it). I could have done it all online with that but as the other one has been sent, it would probably cause a problem once they receive that one if I have also updated it online using this new one.

God knows

Went to the post office with the 11 digit slip, they scanned it and all worked fine.

Fingers crossed the v5 concerns sort themselves out. I understand the DVLA are slower than normal at the mo but Im happy it's done
