Hi,

I started to apply for Teacher Training at two universities a few weeks ago, Bristol and Bath. I had my application ready to submit about 2 weeks ago and had to wait for a lecturer to submit his reference to the site (which took ages..).

I finally submitted it on Saturday, but today I looked at the Vacancies status of the uni's and Bristol has no vacancies. :(

Would this have changed to 'no vacancies' because it reached a certain number of hopeful applicants (hopefully including mine) or because it's reached the number of successful applicants?

I'm still waiting for my ART id so I can track my application..

Bit worried now that if I don't get into Bath, I don't really have another chance till next year. Do PGCE courses offer clearing?

To be honest, by now, most if not all places will have been filled. Everyone I knew (including myself) got their applications in around January to be on the safe side.

EDIT: Yes, I believe clearing is available, so fingers crossed you get want you want :)

Yeah, it was a decision I made towards the end of March and probably wasn't the best time to do so.

I've got an application for the University of Bath which still has vacancies, and I've just added a SCITT course to my choices at Swindon.

The course I'm after is Chemistry, fingers crossed I get interviews at either.

I basically did the same last year, just missed out too.

Bristol interviewed me on December 9th 2009 (I applied as soon as the system opened in early September), and accepted me a couple of days later. Seems they fill up the places with 'good enough' candidates as they go along, rather than getting everyone in then picking out the best.

Sounds like they're full :(

Best suggestion I can make is contacting the PGCE office just to make sure: http://www.bristol.ac.uk/education/students/pgce/contact/

I'm considering adding a PGCE in General Science at UWE and a Somerset SCITT course in Science to my application, but will these all be assessed at the same time? Or will I have to wait for each place to respond in order of choice?

edit; I've found the answer to it already..

Some PGCE courses do offer clearing, but I'd expect these to be higher shortage subjects than science and likely at the lower end up the teacher training universities.

Chemistry is a shortage subject according to the TDA, but I agree I'll probably only have a choice from the lower ranking universities. Fingers crossed Bath offer me an interview :)
