Team Group RAM - faulty?

Hi all,

I recently upgraded my 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz C9 RAM to Team Group Vulcan Red 8GB 2400MHz C10 and I've been having stability problems ever since. To verify I have now removed the Team Group & replaced the Corsair and everything's fine again.

The rest of the hardware is:
i7 4770K @ 4.5GHz
Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H
GTX680

RAM profile is set to XMP in BIOS.

I tried upping the RAM Volts from XMP default 1.65V (read 1.644V in BIOS) to 1.655 (read 1.656V in BIOS) & subsequently 1.66V (still read 1.656V), which appeared to improve stability slightly but by no means fix it.

The stability issues exhibit as game & application crashes, random BSODs (can be whilst idle or under load) & failure to complete tasks (e.g. backups won't complete. Again, removing the TG RAM and replacing the Corsair has fixed all of these issues.

I ran 3 passes of Memtest, but on single core mode and all cores mode. One pass in single core mode threw up 2 errors, but that's all.

I'm on the verge of returning the product but wanted to see what experiences others had had with a) TG RAM generally, & b) 2400MHz RAM with Haswell.

Feedback welcomed!

My first experience of TG RAM has not been good. One of the sticks has an intermittent fault. I`ve used lots of RAM over the years, and only ever had two problems, and I seem to remember one of those was because a retailer sent me modules that had obviously been returned previously, then sent out to me.

Maybe we've just been unlucky.

Sounds like you have been unlucky, my experience with TG RAM has been great - I have TG Elite 16GB (1866MHz) in my rig at the moment and it performs fine. So I wouldn't give up on TG, they're memory is, on the whole, good.

Ive also recently had some issues with Team group 2400mhz

I had 8gig already in my system and added an other 8gig for christmas.

I get a lot of system crashes and BSOD if I run all 16 gig at 2400mhz mainly in games (not in general use), if I turn them down to 1600mhz it all runs fine. Not sure what to do, just down clock and probably not notice any difference or return and see if it is just a bit of a bad pair??

Both pairs are the same:

First time l'v used TG ram, 2133mhz 2x4GB 8GB DC Kit x2 no problems at all.

Try running them with out the XMP and set the timings and volts manually, read your mobo manual on how to do this and see what happens.

Not sure if this should fix it or not, but before I tried setting it manually I thought I would set it to linked mode in the bios rather than auto forcing both channels to use the same settings.....so far it seems to be stable and running at 2400 :P

Hi I'm currently using team group 2400 rams, but my motherboard only showing 2133, the option is there on my msi gaming motherboard to adjust it to 2400, is this going to be safe? I'm new to computers so any advice would be much appreciated thank you

In your bios under the overclocking section, there should be an option to enable XMP. This should set the ram to it's rated speed, timings and voltage.

I got mine as a replacement for a set of patriot 2400mhz that wouldnt run at xmp. Returned it as faulty and got the tg stuff instead. Glad i did as it was lower profile, same price and tighter timings which allowed me to overclock it a touch.
