Teamspeak or Ventrilo?

Been using our own teamspeak server for over 2 years, cant fault it to be honest.

Just make sure you can get decent codecs on it. We run a 20 man server, with Speex 25.9 Kbit codec. As long as peoples mics are good, its clear as anything!

Never tried Vent so cant say, but expect some fanboys (of both) in this thread...

Used both, Ventrilo all the way for quality..

However teamspeak 3 will be out soon.. which is gonna blow ventrilo away

Had nothing but trouble with teamspeak and bad codecs, sound quality has always been awful. Guess it gets better if you buy a decent codec though.

Used vent since...ever, can't fault it.

Been using TS for ages now, works fine imo..

Maybe check out 'mumble'.. it's open source and free :)

ventrillo has the quality hands down

but when it comes down to it, I like teamspeak better, I don't NEED to hear everyone crystal clear, I just want it to work! and TS gives me that.

Vent > TeamSpeak tbh :D

Sound quality seems so much better, also the ability to set volumes for certain people is good as some people are really quiet and others are loud.

Ventrillo definitely has the better quality but teamspeak seems ever so slightly easier to use.

I don't particularly mind which is used

With a properly set up vent server it blows TS out of the water, its also severely simple to set up and use then configure to your preferences.

Im not sure about this but does TS have functionality to convert the individual volumes of people talking to you to be the same volume? Its so useful to do on vent which means everyone can have their in/out set up as they like it without it affecting anyone else.

Ventrillo IMO. I have not used TS but I have never had 1 problem with Ventrillo in years of use. I used it reguarly/weekly to raid on WoW.

We did have to pay for it though (I did not pay myself, someone else in guild did).

Teamspeak is free as far as I know?

Vent here.

I run a dedicated server for about 6 of us which is on 24/7. No fuss, no problems and quality is great. Been running for almost 2 years now!

big thumbs up for ventrillo here, used TS a little with early BF2 then switched to vent when i played wow last year. vent was so much better quality and i didnt find it that much more technical to use either :)
