With Brexit looming and the reality of a hard Brexit a possibility would you have any fears about changing jobs before April?

I am scared that if a recession hits due to a hard Brexit that having gone from a Public sector job back in to the Private sector I could be made vulnerable to redundancies.

I work in a tech role (Devops Linux) and have recently read that the tech industry is actually looking at a growth of about 12% over the next few years but what if Brexit is a failure and the UK enters in to a recession then what?

I've spotted a good job that's about 10k more than I am on at the moment (I'm being under paid), the tech stack is what I'm looking for and they say that training will be provided.

I wasn't actually looking at leaving my current role just yet but the role looks too good not to talk to them at least. But then the thought of a hard Brexit and a recession makes me apprehensive if it's wise to move at this time.

Since the vote I got myself skilled up, prep to leave the UK and move to mainland Europe as I don't Brexit to mess up my career. I am currently working in 2nd and 3rd line support for 9 years.

I'm nearly there now, passed all my exams as of September and had a number of interviews via Skype and one physical interview in Sweden. I wish I did this a few years earlier as I have seen plenty of IT jobs which pay more than the UK even when you include the cost of living for that area.

I wouldn't be too concerned in tech...the industry has matured and the majority of it is sounds, profitable, and increasingly essential to modern life....not like the .dot com bubble days.

As long as you're not in a wishful-thinking no-revenue startup, or some sad effort to cash in on crypto hype before everyone figures out it's not a big deal....you should be fine.

As malachi says, you could move to Europe to mitigate the risk of a disastrous Brexit. You'll get better pay, working conditions, and social security to boot in Germany and the scandi countries.

No

Perhaps, but likelihood is if you're any good and in demand you will walk into another role so this risk is limited.

There are always roles in tech for good people, never been any different in my over 33 years.

Plenty of time for regrets and plenty of time to spend that extra 10K. Don't over think it, it is just a job. If you are not very good (you should know if you are honest) stay where you are.

Jesus some people and fear! Just carry on with life!

This. Even if the worst happened it's not like you'll die of starvation homeless on the streets. Have a couple months buffer on your income at least though, or assets that can be quickly liquidated.

I forsee a lot of fat trimming round here. In general, try not to be the fat :p

Literally started a new job last week, no Brexit is going to stop me looking for work or changing jobs :p
