Hi guys, after some technicial knowledge here as I'm not great with car mechanics and sometimes have to buy whatever a mechanic throws at me
My car is still under warranty (Citroen C5 VTR). I noticed an issue the other day of a ticking type sound coming from the passangers side near the wheel, which appeared to happen in time with the suspension bouncing around. So, considering I do around 600 miles a week, I booked the car in to be looked at. I was working so my wife had to take it in for me.
The mechanic at this place found the problem which was said to be a heatshield from the near-side front track rod. It was a piece of metal around about coaster size and L-shaped (like a bracket), it was a bit bent and a little rusty
The part was removed and my wife told it was redundant and not required (perhaps it was for another model?).
Anyhow, this worried me, as at this point he hadn't told my wife where the heat-shield was from - I thought it could be from the exhaust system. My Citroen is an HDI with some kind of particle filter which causes the exhaust system to run at high temperatures for periods of time (so I've heard). So I called them up and was told it was from the near-side track rod area.
How does this sound to you techs? Why would a heat-shield be present in this area of the steering-stuff ? More to say, would it be redundant??! I've had a look under the car as much as I can, but I can't say I really know what/where I'm looking! Ta
