I've a question regarding technet.

If I wished to setup a server at home to mimic the system in work, to play about with things, see how the overall structure works on our current environment, and test the deployment of new software across our network, is a technet subscription what i would be looking to purchase?

We're about to upgrade to windows sbs2011, and i have a free machine at home, if I buy a technet sub, can I download sbs2011 and install it (non-production environment) and set it up to mimic the work setup, so i can basically teach myself the config and workings of the network within this environment?

Is this what the sub allows, or have I completely missed the boat?
Its an annual resub I understand, and currently you can get 15 months for price of 12.
So as long as I've a sub I can use the system to mimic work and continue to plan our future upgrades and test new variations, is this correct?

Windows sbs2011 is available as part of my digital technet subscription. So you can download it.

I don't know how you'll be able to test the effectiveness of network config on a single machine, I suppose you could add a vm?

So long as you're using it for dev purposes (not commercial) you can do whatever you want.

I don't know if any of that is any help to you though. ;)

Yes.

I tend to use VMs but I struggle a bit with 2GB of RAM (motherboard won't accept more and I'm too tight to upgrade) but if you have plenty of memory theres no reason why you can't try it out on one computer.

The great thing about the subscription is you get full versions of almost everything you can think of (it's like being a kid in a sweet shop) so you really can try before you buy.

Superb, thats exactly what i was hoping to hear.
I do plan to use VMs, this should allow some form of network replication, alongside out DB stuff but using dummy details etc.

Okay trying to purchase this subscription, and for some reason on processing, it is giving me an error message.

This is coming up instead of a screen which should be allowing me to enter billing details.
Most confusing.

Okay tried to purchse through the MSstore and things have gone form bad to bizzare.
The thing lists technet in teh cart and the price, and also offers to allow me to purchase it, and when i got to payment detaisl it greys out the two CCs associated with my account, and instead offers an option to pay by wire transfer.

Not bacs or anything local, but international wire transfer.
This seems utterly bizzare, especially when written below is, MSStore accepts visa/masatercard etc.

Has anyone encountered any issues like this before?
