Please please help me (car prob)

Since this morning my temp gauge is creeping over normal to 2thirds and then the e39 fan kicks in and cools it down, the heating also goes cold even when on hot usualy while the temp is creeping up.

I could not check much but the oil and coolant was fine. had a few suggestions that it may be the water pump or the thermostat or even blocked hoses due to leaves in autum which there is lots.

would any of these match the symptoms

please help me im a total car noob :(

quick edit: it did it once on way home just now, but was then fine all the way home which is very wierd.

Sounds like an air bubble in the heater hoses.

When you checked the antifreeze level, was that in the plastic bottle off to the side, or did you open the radiator cap (unless your car is one of the wierd ones that the pressure cap isn't actually ON the radiator)?

Just a thought

How would leaves get into a vacum filled system to block a hose?

Water pump sounds too extreme. Thermostat sounds better.

Reading Mickeys post, you should find a bleed valve on top of one of the hoses, might be worth letting the car run up to temp and unscrewing this

yeh I have had a few folks tell me it may be air in the system, i filled the water into the the coolant bit it says the engine to fill it. was a mix of antifreeze and water.

blocked hoses i meant with like the fan bit or something dont know im a car noob :p

cheers for the help anyway will bleed the thing tomorrow, it is with the engine on and the heater on slightly raised at the front this is done correct??
