Tefal Optigrill

Lot of money for what is essentially a griddle pan? Or am I missing the point...

I'd personally put the money towards a Le Creuset griddle instead.

sounds like a waste of monies

and auto sensors are usually crap my at the time £250 microwave has them and they don't work that great unless the food is room temperature to begin with.
It's supposed to be able to sense the moisture of the food and the weight but seems more like it cooks them for a length of time depending on how many grams the food is and the sensors are just a gimmick

you might as well get a regular electric grill that's temperature adjustable.
cook meet on low/med etc

not rocket science to tell if the food is cooked but these grills don't really grill the food they act more like a steamer

Acht I was wanting to hear good stuff so I can indulge in gadgetry, I had heard though that these grills give a kind of "steam" cook.

The oil runs one way away from the food.

The moisture goes the other way trying to escape from the grill and is obviously just a wall of super heated steam trapped between the grill plates.

Cook bacon on one and you'll see from how it starts to cook and it seems impossible to get crispy bacon even if you spray the plates with oil first.

even a microwave on microwave setting can crisp bacon

It's almost like these grills just dehydrate the food as they cook with hot air

From my experience these kind of grills never get hot enough to sear meat and it just comes out looking grey and chewy. Le Creuset...

I opted for a £20 cast iron griddle pan from Sainsbury, I figured this would give me a fair idea of the Le Creuset for a small outlay.

I have to say the results with burgers and breast of chicken are superb, much much better than conventional methods, the only issue is the amount of smoke created
