Oops. :( Will do that now. Sorry for the delays but I'm all sweaty from running up and down now. I wish I had a bungalow.

Like I said, you need to run cmd first.

I just tried ipconfig in the command promt window and get this when connected through the router and directly.

Did you power cycle the modem after plugging it directly to you PC? That screenshot shows that your PC couldn't get an IP address so it decided to assign itself one.
 
Okay this is what I get when the modem is connected directly to my PC and has been turned off and on.

 
That's still wonky. You have disabled all firewalls?
Tried switching the modem off, disconnecting it from the PC, switching it back on, waiting for the lights to steady up, then hooking it up?
 
Well it worked and now I'll try and see if it'll work through the router.

What I don't understand is what happened over night to mess it all up in the first place?

Well it seems to be working now but I've just got an Active Desktop recovery error which isn't anything I should be worrying about I hope.

Thanks for all your help so far although I really wonder what has happened to my motherboard that's made it do this.
