Telewest Router Question!

Hi people i have broadband from telewest! My modem is a surfboard one!

What it is , ill be getting an xbox 360 soon and i want to get on the internet with it as well so what will i need?
Just a router? Im sure i saw somewhere a splitter that went into the back of the modem so you can plug the internet in as well as a console! but i cant find it now?

Any help will be good!

depends on what surfboard surely?

mine has ethernet AND USB... couldn't you connect the usb to the x-box and not use your pc when you want to use xbox live?

(not being an xbox owner...)

Can only connect one or other without going through the same hassle as both using the ethernet IIRC.
Doubt the xbox would work with the USB anyway.
 
could use XP as the router.

modem > ethernet > pc NIC

add another NIC

PC NIC > ethernet > xbox

?

unless you REALLY want wifi (im thinking of cheap and chearful solutions)
 
Yes. Given the small difference in price between them, the WRT54G/GS might be a better choice though (even if you do switch the wireless off) - range of third party firmware etc.
 
It's the same as the BEFSR41 you linked to before, except it has an 8 port switch instead of 4 ports.
It has a firewall (well, it has NAT, which isn't really a firewall but meh).
 
I thought it was the next one up from it?!
but the best thing about it is i might get it for nothing!! but if not ill get that one you mentioned!
so do you think it will be ok?! im not bothered about wires!!

Er, where did you get that from?
The only (obvious) difference is it has an extra 4 switch ports, which isn't important if you're going to connect <4 devices to it...

Next one up as in the one on OCUK has 4 ports and the one i have here has 8 ports, so its like the next one up? or is it not? they both have same product numbers?!

That will work with your Xbox just fine. You will, of course, need to open the 2 Xbox ports either manually or using UPNP though. Manual is easy peesy.
 
Right ill have to look into that then!
The only thing that bothers me is the xbox going onto the internet and theres no really firewall on the router?! does it matter?
