Telewest Slow?

Yes...

They are having problems up and down the country. My 10mb telewest line has been running at basic dsl speed for nearly 2 months now. We have ran and complained on many many occasions. The best they have come off with is once the line is back up to speed to call and they will refund from when it was crap! :(

Doesn't help that they've switched over to virgin media support which can be a nightmare to get through to.

I've had issues here with low speeds a few week back, I rang and complained and got half price rental for three month :D and even better news was about two week after I complained the speeds got back up to about normal.

We've had problems now for a few months, to the point it's almost at a standstill during peak times. My boyfriend called tech support yesterday and was told that it's due to antiquated infrastructure in several areas which just can't support the speeds and number of users they're supposed to be providing. Apparantly everywhere is getting upgraded, however it's being done in order of priority (ie places with the most customers on the maximum package), and they have no idea when anywhere will be done.

I'm planning on calling tomorrow to get them to up our speed for the same price and see if that changes anything. Otherwise we'll be getting a BT line installed and switching to ADSL :(.

It took my boyfriend over an hour to get through to the retentions line at customer services when he called (first time he tried it wouldn't even queue him!), as loads of people are complaining about the lack of sky channels and want their packages increased or to cancel.

Everywhere is getting upgraded to higher speeds from June as in 10-20mbit. However you would seem to be on a UBR that has a capacity issue from what you've said. UBR upgrades are not done as you state, if a UBR needs upgrading it'll be done on a FIFO basis not a subscriber/package basis. I suspect this gem may have come from non uk tech support ? they are the same people who attempted to justify a fault as an outage despite the rest of the area being fine and no outage being triggered.
