'evening guys.
I've got a Netgear DG834GT. It was my router a few routers ago, and now just serves as an Access Point. Unfortunately after a few days of uptime it slows down, and after about a week the Access Point disappears altogether. Using a wired connection I can get to the DG834GTs Web GUI and reboot it. Then the same happens, it works fine for a couple of days before slowing down and then disappearing. Dead repeatable.
The DG834GT is on the latest Netgear firmware. As putting the DG834GT on a timer switch to reboot it every 3AM seems a bit ***** I'm interested in flashing it with a different firmware, so....
Tell me about custom firmwares. I gather there's quite a few to chose from - OpenWRT & DGTeam are two I've heard of.
Which of the the many available is going to be the best for my needs? Note that I'm only using the DG834GT as an Access Point, not a router or modem.
Also, how does one get the DG834GT running this magic firmware? Can I simply upload it through the Netgear GUI as an update? Or is it more complicated? (SSH/Telnet etc).

Definitely a brilliant idea to use the heat source wisely and efficiently.
