In about 3 weeks I shall be purchasing a PS3 (partially a birthday present and as a nice reward for finishing my exams )
So, tell me about them, I understood that before E3 there where rumours of a price cut, did this happen?
I already have an Xbox, so all my cross platform games will be bought for that, I am just after the many exclusives that can't be had elsewhere.
What is voice chat like on the PS3, I have heard it is not as integrated and polished as Xbox Chat (Party chat and the like)
Also, I heard a while back that the PS3's back compatibility support for PS2 games had stopped, has there been any new developments on this side of things as I would like to play PS2 games on my PS3.
what are the main exclusives I should be looking to purchase?
I already have MGS4 and GT5 on my list, what else should I be purchasing?

Thank you in advance for replies :)

PS2 game support was only on the original 60GB PS3, but some of the good games are getting remade in HD

For games, Uncharted, God of War, Heavy Rain, Killzone, Yakuza, there is more but my mind as gone blank :(

I got a PS3 2 weeks ago MGS4 is great, loving Wipeout HD and need to play more Killzone 2...

If you get a slim you cannot play PS2 game at all, some phat ones have the hardware to play them perfectly and others do it by emulation but for some reason there is not even emulation on the slim... Anyone know why?

Uncharted1+2 inFamous 1+2 are must buys also is Killzone2+3 and Resistance 1+2, Little Big Planet 1+2 most of them can be had for cheap too

Oh look it's this thread again.

I swear someone should compile OcUK's list of recommended PS3 exclusives or something.

Demon's Souls is reason enough to get a PS3 (still), Wipeout HD is fantastic, as are games like 3D dot game heroes, Killzone, etc

There should just be a 360 and PS3 sticky which lists all the exclusives and peripherals, the pros and cons of each console and then have the thread locked.

Sorry to half hijack your thread but I'm sort of in the same position as you, is there any difference between the 160Gb and 320Gb PS3's other than the hard drive?

Tell me, is £195 a good price for a brand new 160GB Slim?

It's about the average price. :)

It's worth buying it at that though unless you're prepared to go through auctions and stuff, I wouldn't feel comfortable buying any second hand electronics but you may feel differently. I just checked the websites of most of the major stores and e-tailers that came to mind and the 160GB ranges from £199 to £250. Ridiculous as only a year and a half ago I bought a new 250GB PS3 Slim, Fifa 10 and Uncharted 2 from Amazon for something like £220.

No other difference as far as I'm aware apart from storage space.

Are there lower price out there? :)

If you shop around maybe, from what I've seen from a few minutes of browsing it's the lowest I've seen apart from Amazon which is £199. Places like Game, Gamestation, Currys, Comet, Play, HMV are all ridiculously overpriced so when I said average price that was probably wide of the mark... I made that comment before doing any research, naughty naughty. :p

I'm astounded that the 160GB is near £200 at the cheapest though, I'm guessing the only way you'll get it cheaper is trawling eBay or getting a nearly new one which has been looked after but like I said I wouldn't buy any second hand electronics. :)

To include the EE and GS chips that were in the original PS2 was costing Sony too much money considering they were already losing around $200 for every console they sold thanks to the high cost of the Cell and the Blu Ray drives. They decided that most people didn't want it and so it got dropped. I've not missed it and while my brother has the ability to use it he enver has.

Now that the price has come down it would be nice to see it back but it won't happen now that they have realised people will happily pay for HD remakes if they are good enough. I think we have ZOE, MGS remakes coming soon as well, possibly with the ability to play on the new PS Vita too.

RE a price cut, many are expecting one to be announced at gamescom in the middle of August.

Only buy games that are in the genre you like but already having MGS4 and GT5 I'd recommend
Valkyria Chronicles
Demons Souls
Sengoku Basara 3
Infamous 1/2
Killzone 1 and 2
Motorstorm (decide which you think you;d like best of the ones out)
Uncharted (very popular, very average. You'll more than likely take to it as most do though)

it's too bad about the backwards compatibility being removed for newer models though. I mean there's tons of great old games and no one has played all the PS2 library so everyone could make use of it if it weren't for it's axing. I've just wanted to get back into Odin sphere and my girlfriend wants to play Shadow of the Colossus.

You know about the HD collection right?

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection hits PS3 Spring 2011 with 3D

To the OP, I don't know how you like to play games. I like to have a few that I can just pick up and play and a few that need some time dedicated to them. So while I've been playing God of War 3 which i feel needs some time dedicated to it, i've also been playing Wipeout HD which is easier to just pick up and play for a shorter time.

Also don't forget some PSN greats like Flower, PixelJunk Shooter & Shatter.
