My MIL has had her motorbility car taken away from her, so she needs a cheap auto, there is one local to us on a private sale, listed for £2000 with only 37k on the clock, apparently owned by an elderly lady and just used around town.

Anything I should be looking out for or should I get an RAC check done?

Thanks!

Are you going to go for it then?
Taking MIL to see it tomorrow now that I feel like it's not a lemon, most likely she will go for it.

Slight delay in change of ownership as the lady who owned it passed away so they have to change it to a relatives ownership first, that's also why it wasn't taxed.

Just an update to say she liked it so we've gone ahead and bought it.

So we are still waiting for the DVLA to return the V5 to the seller, it will cost another £300 to insure the car without the new owners name appearing on the V5 but the seller has offered to let us take the car anyway until the V5 arrives.

What are the implications of this? As long as I get a signed receipt from the seller declaring that they are no longer the owner of the car, would that be OK?
