Tell me about the Titan Xenomorph - Future proof?

Guys

I'm looking to buy the Titan Xenomorph with a few additions:

GTX 460 1Gig (not sure whether to go for Asus, Gigabyte or EVGA?)
Crucial 64GB SSD
Windows 7

I'm just concerned about furture proofing. I need the system to run the latest games at max settings for the next 3 years on a 24" monitor (1920x1080). Keeping in mind that the motherboard doens't support SLI.

Will that be possible or do I need to shell out on the Titan Oynx?

Ideally I don't want to spend more than £1,000 and looking at intel only.
 
I doubt if a 460 will keep you going for 3 years at max settings. You'd need to upgrade the graphics at least once, drop your settings or buy a high end card now. I suppose it depends also on what sort of games you play. If you play console ports then you might just get away with it.

Cheers for the response. Upgrading the gfx wn't be an issue but what i don't want it having ot upgrade the whole system within 3 years. My concern is basically the mobo and processor.

Is the Exodus a goo dmiddle ground with the i5?
 
the i3 is good for now, but i think if your looking for 2-3+ years then i would go with a quad core like the i5.

the i3 would prolly still be good for some games in 3 years time, but i want good performance on all games then the i5 is better
 
In the coming years more and more games are likely to fully utilise the power of multiple cores. So although i3 is a good solid processor for today and probably for the next 12-18 months. Thereafter newly released games are going to be more powerful. i5 would provide you with better "future proofing" but remember the socket 1156 is being retired quite soon, probably Q1 2011 or so. As for the graphics card, entirely dependent on settings and resolution you play at. GTX 460 is the best middle of the ground card at the moment but by three years you will probably need to upgrade. I'm in a similar boat re. the GPU looking for something that will last me at least two years without going too overboard. Probably get a 1GB GTX 460 and renew it in 2 years or so.
 
bump... I'm stretching my budget to get the Onyx in interest of future proofing with the follwong extras

crucial SSD 60GB
GTX 460 1GB
Coolermaster Storm Scout

Good move?
 
As you have stated this is mainly for gaming, I'm pretty sure the i5 would be plenty and you could either save the extra ££ or put it towards a higher-end graphics card.

I recently upgraded last week, and ordered Radon Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle With Corsair H50 // Gigabyte GeForce GTX 460 OC 1024MB GDDR5

And i must say its excellent, have no faults what so ever.

Maybe this option would be better since its mainly used for gaming,

The reason why I'm going for the i7 is because (as someone mentioned) the 1156 socket will be obsolete soon. I won't be able to upgrade the cpu down the link if I go with the 1156 socket.
 
i dont think they will release any new cpus for both lga 1156 and 1366 after the new ones come out. but if you get a phenom ii x4 or x6 maybe you can use it on am3+ mobos when they come out as it is supported and maybe the gtx470 would still be able to play everything max in say 2 years time
 
Good choice on the Onyx, however I wouldn't choose the Scout case.

You talk about possibly upgrading your GFX in years to come however the Scout has fairly limited space (only just fits a GTX480) so GFX cards like the 5970 don't fit.

So if GFX cards keep following this trend of becoming larger and larger you could be stuck.

So what case would you recommend? Antec 300 with extra fans? Any better option?

in 2 years time, the top end chips for 1366 should be fairly cheap, so u'll still be able to upgrade to something better.

plus the i7's should last awhile before they even start to get pushed, so u might not even need to upgrade it in 3 years time anyways
 
Yeah thats right, I would have thought and overclocked i7 would be powerful enough for quite a number of years to come, even then you could replace the 920/930/950 for something a bit better then.
