I don't know much about memory sticks but you will really need to just look at writing and read speeds of the memory stick, generally big brands will have the best reliability although this will increase the cost.
The corsair flash voyager GT series sports some pretty fast usb flash drives.
Good access times, large file transfer speeds and fast read speeds. It doesn't do that well on small file transfers tho.
These are premium flash drives so they do tend to cost a good bit more than your average drives; especially at higher storage capacities.
I used a Vogager GT today, copied a 30MB Powerpoint from one to another via my HDD. The reading from the Corsair was done in just a couple of seconds, if that. The writing to the unbranded old thing took the best part of a minute!!

Writes tend to be slower on flash than reads, so don't read too much into that. It's also a pity that they've had to go to MLC chips, but Samsung refuse to make SLC chips in sizes larger than 4GB so they were out of luck.
