My gf's farther had took his car into the local lexus dealership to have it serviced.

It came back with a repair bill of £1000:eek:

Its on a 2000 plate i think, and its a GS300.

They said all four shocks were gone, i'm pretty sure that it should not cost that much to repair?!

And apparently this will fix the problem of squeating breaks and a squeaking noise once the handbreak is lifted when cold, and also noisy turning?

I guess if they were replacing more parts it would be more feasiable, but £1000 for shocks?

I know that the lexus place will be slightly more expencive than other places, but it has to be done there too keep a propor service history. (thier own peace of mind)

So do lexus cars have a shock problem?!

lolj just because 1 6 year old car has worn shocks you can't start making sweeping statements like 'lexus cars have a shock problem'. £1000 is expensive, but then its an expensive prestige car so what do you expect?

Lexus's cost around £500 to be serviced (I think), so I wouldn't be suprised if it cost £1000 for some repairs. The more a car costs, the more expensive it'll be to repair.

I guess so, i was just a little suprised at the cost, my very first car cost less than that!

TBH i think they look pap, being a "prestegious" car! (would look so nice thou with 20" chrome spinners and all blacked out, gangsta!)

I know for 20k, i would expect a lot more in terms of looks! But ah well!

Exactally how good are theses cars? Dont really hear many people talking about it!

ouch sounds a little step but prestige cars are expensive to maintain and main delaers alwasy say such Bul****t
they would have been better of getting done and a garage you trusted

I think he meant 20k when it was first bought brand new? The price makes sense to me, like that guy said service at that age is a fair bit and the dealers always charge more than local garages, etc

prolly about right for lexus

bear in mind thats just 250 a corner fitted

allow say an hour a corner (at lexus) at 100 pounds an hour and there you go 400 quid

Nope, GS was loads more than that, nearer £30k. It's a BMW 5 Series rival. Which is half its problem, really, as it was stuck in the shadow of the E39 throughout its production life, only really appealing to people prepared to buy an inferior car simply becuase it wasn't a BMW.

They paied 20k for it about 2/3 years ago

It was one of those car's that he allways always wanted!

If you put it to £250 per corner, it sounds fair enough!!

Firstly it's "they're" and "brakes" :)

But if the whole bill was 1k and other stuff/servicing was done as well that figure shrinks even more.

When you say shocks, do you mean just the springs or the whole system, I got lowering springs for my car, only cost like 60 quid for 4 springs including fitting.

Do you drive a Lexus GS300? Replacing the suspension on a car like that is not like fitting cheap Ripspeed lowernig springs to an Escort or something :)

When he says "shocks" he means the shock absorbers - the things that stop the springs from endlessly bouncing...

all these luxury cars are the same, you gotta pay loads to keep them running., surprising though because its a toyota and toyotas dont go wrong. :p

I've just had the rear shocks replaced on my S60 at the dealers expense. The bill came to £470 inc labour so I'd say £1k for a service and then the repairs is a bit of a bargain.

Aye my Clio has just had a service and my mechanic reckons the shocks at the front are "sweating" a bit.

Will replace them soon, for some weird reason unlike every other part on the car that seems to cost a fortune, they are only £40 each :)
