As some may know, i have a Q6600 (now clocked to 3.00Ghz), a newly bought GTX460, 4gbs RAM. I'm not looking for futureproofing but im looking to be able to play whatever games tickle my fancy in regards to being released in 2013. I can buy myself a new mobo and an extra 4gbs of RAM. But i have concerns about putting money into an old system.

Or i could put the money into a new system build, whether its waiting for Sandy Bridge or not. Im not a hobbyist, i just want to be able to play whatever comes out that i fancy. And i know my Q6600 will just sit in the cupboard doing nothing.

Save your cash, theres no point putting extra RAM in for starters, 4 gig is fine for gaming
And as such I wouldnt bother with a new mobo, it may be a rogue cpu that doesnt clock well and getting a new board may make no difference, so yeah save up til you can go new system

Surely that runs most games out now pretty well? And 2013 is a loooong time away, if you need to play games released then surely it's better to save your money and upgrade when the games start being released that you can't handle.

Seems completely insane to buy a PC today or anytime next year for the use of playing games released 2013...

Due to the nature of my job, i may not be employed next year and having the cash now, i'd like to do something productive with it regarding my computer.

you could always upgrade and give me the q6600 ;) saves it sitting in the cupboard.....

well it doesnt matter what you buy now, in a few years time who knows where technology will be.....but quad core technology for gaming is very good for future proof at the mo.....the q6600 is still a very good processor, so i would just hang on to what you have and see how demanding games get in the next 12 months......

Three years from now is unpredictable. I would save that money for another time. Your system is fine at the moment to play games for this year and next.
