I have a mate who wants to know if he has PCI-E or AGP because he wants a new graphics card, he bought the pc a few days ago from the high street and i cant seem to figure out what it is.

i found out he has this motherboard

packard bell BVV - MCP73VT-PM

and says the chipset is a GeForce 7050.

and responses would be greatly appreciated, i know it should be PCI-E but with these dodgy motherboards who knows.

You can use cpu-z available here and look under the mainboard tab....

already done that, i get the dodgy Packard bell crap showing as stated above. just wanted to make sure as i dont want to be lumbered with an old mates hatred :D

jesus are packard bell still in business? normally i would say he definitely has a pci e , but who the hell knows with a packard bell. might even be an isa hehe

Find out the actual model no of the packard bell pc as a whole e.g packard bell 6200c etc then go on thier own site for the full spec or use purple shirts's support site which lists virtutaly every pb pc. Failing that a program like everest should show you.

can you not just open it up and look? or are you not intending to upgrade it and therefore don't want to void warranty?

I dont live anywhere near him, its a X2414.

its a simple install i can guide him through it, he wanted a gaming PC so i told him i can build one or their are some good pc's pre built on overclockers but he still went ahead and bought this packard bell.

Thanks for the link bud but i cant find anything on their that suggests its on PCI-E.

i have looked up th 7050 which seems to suggest it has pci-express but having done an everest diagnostic it looks as if it has an AGP slot, im not entirely sure though.

i have asked him to give his support number a ring and ask them (hopefully will get some answers).

i can usually provide my mates with an accurate reading but not know what sort of crap oem motherboard he has been given i need to be at least 90% sure.

Christ, I've never heard of Geforce7050. Companies like Packard Bell only seem to survive on people's ignorance. Mobo wise doesn't it just show up in dxdiag?

And if he can't be bothered, tell him it's either that or TheGoonden's patent technique for telling.....

If you have to hit it with a hammer more than 3 times it's not the right socket.
;)

A photo would be best rather that guessing, Some of the cheap OEM machines with integrated graphics dont even have anything more than PCI + PCIe x1 (IE no slot for graphics cards at all).

Non upgradable, cheap computers is where where some OEM's like to be. And packard bell have certainly made a few of these in their time.

Looking at the link to packard bell, it says PCI slots free.. PCI not PCIe. So it could well be integrated graphics, + pci slots for network cards/soundcards and whatnot. If you look at the higher model the iPower it lists both PCI, and PCI express slots.
