i want to overclock my processor, but the temp is rubbish.. it is hitting over 50c under load with only a little more voltage.

its been like this since ive had it and i have reseated the hs already, didnt make a difference.

For the noise the fan makes on the heatsink it should be a lot cooler than this.

is there any way to solve it? i already tried taking off the IHS but i managed to scrape the top of the processor and couldnt really do it with a stanley knife so i left it and put it back in the pc just incase i damage it by accident.

is it a problem with the chip or is the IHS not contacting properly?

If you look at his signature he isnt using a stock one ;) I would have though poor contact between the core and IHS or a dodgy temp reading

Try and get that IHS off then, seems it could be making shoddy contact with the die.. Also keep in mind once the IHS is off some of the "clip on" heatsinks are a bit lose (due to the larger gap)

I would get a temp probe (about £5) and stick it to the side of the IHS, see what temp it is. You may just have a dodgy temp sensor, no point taking the IHS off yet, you might even break your chip in the process, and the SI 120 wont fit if you remove the IHS

my one is also very hot with the default heatsink which is good for a single core but with the doble core hits 56c with both cores a full load and only 1.4v which is enough for 2700 1:1 with my memory.

anyway in my case playing still below 50c so good enough for me ;)

I will upgrade it when games use both cores a full load
