I've just built a system using a Asus barebones AE-1 and a sempron 2800+ cpu. It all works fine. The bios reports the temp at 40c, and Asus probe reports a similar result. however the person this was built for has installed a stupid bit of software called PC (forgot this part) 2006, which is reporting the CPu temp at 200C. They are insisting its a problem and they had a similar problem before which a bios update fixed. I know its complete rubbish. is it the software misconfigured, or just crap software?

Its just **** software, quite probably with spyware etc included to attempt to make him buy the full version.
If the temps are OK in the BIOS, then I'd just ignore it TBH.

(All temp sensing stuff gets its readings from the same place, if it is wrong in one then it should be wrong in all the others)

Could it be PC Wizard 2006?

I use it to identify hardware on people's computers when they ask me to look at them. It has a temperature monitor which I've never really used but checking my rigs just now it reads basically the same as PC Probe and Smartguardian - within a degree or so, at least.
