Hi all, have just done my first ever overclock.

E8500 + Maximus II Formula.

Increased the FSB to 400mhz and set VCore to 1.3v.

The main thing is that all the temps are ok..?

depends, if thats under load then yeah its great, if not theyre a little high. I suggest using coretemp as its a little clearer, and you can see what load the CPU is under. I take it youve run prime95 or something similar to check for stability

Idle, the screenshot was taken just after a reboot.

I dont have prime, or any other stablity test programs but i have been playing fallout 3 for a few hours with zero issues.

I would have thought that keeping the Vcore down, the temps would be ok?

Anything i can do to lower them further?

Im using a TRUE120 black and an antec 902 so plenty of cooling!

Thanks!

post a screeny of coretemp, just noticed actually that everest is reporting CPU as 35 but your cores as 50+54, 35 is good, 50+54 isnt, a) they shouldnt be more than 2 degrees apart and b) this is high for idle
Check the temps with coretemp, if they are reported more than 2 degrees apart in coretemp also try realtemp, and run the sensor test that comes with realtemp. Hopefully its just everest playing up

Youve managed to find an old copy of coretemp, but it doesnt matter, Id say theyre a touch on the high side for idle temps, though whats important are your load temps, download and run prime95 and keep an eye on your temps whilst its running, if they get too hot youll have to shut it down(prime95) so you dont damage the chip, you dont really want to be running over 65C for any length of time, dont owrry if it peaks slightly over this, but if its running consistently over you have a problem
