Temperature difference between cores

Sorry if this has been asked loads of times before.

I'm running a dual core AMD Opteron CPU and have noticed that I get a temperature difference of anywhere between 3-5 degrees between core 0 and core 1 (core 0 is higher).

My guess is that this is probably normal as most applications only use core 0 and core 1 is often left to do very little work.

If anyone could confirm this that would be great.

Cheers for replies :)

There's also occasionally a bit of variance in the quality of the contact that the heatspreader makes with the top of the core, leading to some bits of the CPU being better cooled than others.
