hi guys..

could you give me a basic temperature guide..

what temperature your cpu, system and graphics card should be generally and what temperatures they shouldn't go over to be safe..

Cheers.

I'd be very worried if the cpu idle temp was above 55 degrees! I would say for AMD max cpu temp 50 degrees single core, 55 dual core. Case temp doesnt matter too much, try to keep around 30, hd temp usually 30-35. Gfx card temps are often very different, the card should have throttling to stop it damaging itself, what card do you have?

What cooling do you have for your hard drives to sit at that  Mine run considerably hotter idle :(

Really? One of mine with cooling is currently 23c (on 24/7) and the other without cooling is 27c.

My other computer (again without cooling for the HD) idles at around 20-25

If they are modern then they will report it to a program such as MBM... or everest.

Edit : When all three drives were in the same rack, one of them reached 60 something :(

I had 4 drives in the same rack with no cooling and then the temps must have been pretty high (maybe 60+ at a guess).

I was getting wierd things happening in windows and finally figured it might be to do with high hdd temps...

Swapped my case fan from the back of the case, to in front of the drive bays and temps were around 40-45C.

Now moved the fan back to the back and installed an Akasa Amber at the front - temps now down to 35-40C.

With 3 or 4 drives close together then the ambient temps seem to be quite high unless you've got some real good cooling. But just make sure you've got some half decent airflow over the drives themselves and you'll see the temps come down :)

I'd say if your HDD temps stay below around 45C then you're ok - but I always got a bit worried if they went higher. Think most disks are spec'd to about 60C. Obviously the cooler the better - and your hdd's should also last longer! :)

CPU depends greatly on CPU, values you have been given are for AMD. A P4 (specially prescott) can idle at 55 and load at 75 with no problems.

(Put a scythe ninja on mine and down to 36/50)

Speedfan is another good program to use to find hdd temps.

My temps are currently:

CPU(A64 [email protected]) - 41C
Case(Antec p180) - 37C
Harddrive(36GB raptor) - 34C
Harddrive(250GB WD) - 36C
Harddrive(80GB Seagate) - 39C
GPU1(Geforce 6600GT) - 50C
GPU2(Geforce 6600GT) - 46C
Room(According to my Galilean Thermometer) - 25C

Im quite happy with those temps. Nothing great, but nothing in the dangerzone, and my room is a furnace at the moment.

Edit; Ive just realised that the case temp is apparently higher than the raptor.. that can't be right can it

Case(Antec p180) - 37C

that needs sorting, thats to hot for a p180

mine is running rosetta@100%cpu usage

cpu 44c
mb 29c
hd 39c, downloading from bittorrent

try taking the side off ya case, and see what ya mb temp is then, if its a big difference, then ya might need better(faster) fans

just seen ya edit

Everest says:

Mobo: 33
WD 80: 27
WD 160: 29

I'm listening to tunes on Winamp, MSN and browsing the net. Has been on for hours. Basicly all day.

But in saying this I have a 120mm intake infront of my HDD's.
