Temperature issue - fan placement wrong?

Hi there,

I have nearly had my rig from Overclockers a year. I upgraded the fan around Christmas to an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev2.0. I have never done this before, but it seemed to go okay. I use Speedfan to monitor temps, and I noticed it was colder upon boot, around 36c. But, when I have a few tabs open in Chrome for example, it soars past 50, regularly reaching 56c.

To me, this isn't safe. I have attached a photo to kindly ask if I have fitted it the wrong way round. http://postimg.org/image/6mxnkwvjf/

My case is the Coolermaster K380: http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mid-tower/k380/

I was going to add another fan to the back, to remove air, and I think this would help. I currently have a chassis fan that runs auto on a low level, and this cpu fan. My powersupply also has one, pulling air in I believe

So, two questions really: Is the placement wrong, and what other fan would you recommend? A lot of air flow, but for less noise, as with the other fans, hopefully it wouldn't need to ramp up as much.

Thank you!

Try turning it 90 degrees clockwise, if your single exhaust fan is at the rear.

Coolermaster suggest any way around for an intel cpu (depends on your set up and what ever works out coolest)..

..but they only suggest up or down for a amd cpu, what CPU do you have?

Coolermaster instructions here

Thank you for the quick reply. Yes, I have read that, would be perfect if I could turn it! I have an AMD Fx-6300. I don't currently have an exhaust fan either!

Spotted this also, so the air is going over the cpu, and to the top of the case. Could put a fan there, but I don't think there is room. Out the back makes more sense to me.

Add an exhaust fan (or two) asap. Worth testing and swapping over your intake fan to an exhaust fan as well.

It's worth reseating it too, what cooler did you have before? Stock cooler or?

A lot of this is trial and error really.

Edit: bit of a naff cooler for an amd cpu really, I don't like either of those suggested positions!

+1 for adding two exhaust fans at the top if you can asap and add an intake fan on the window side as well. my sys temp is 27C I have a cooler master HAF X and its full of slow moving fans to keep it cool :-) I have the front one like yours plus two roof mounted exhaust fans as well as a fan mounted in the window. as for cpu cooler put an AIO on it and be done with it :-) Also from your photo it looks like you have room to mount an intake fan in the floor or the case ... these fans don't need to be blowing a gail just a nice constant speed to push air through the case.

Thank you for all the replies! I think I will buy an exhaust fan.

Any suggestions, please?

I was thinking this one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-040-AE&tool=3
or this one

I have mounted fans with red leds in to add light to the case as well :)

I used 200 mm versions of the 120mm version http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-013-BX&groupid=701&catid=2331&subcat=4

they are very quiet as I control the speed with a fan controller.

Ah okay, I may get one of those next time! I bought one of these. Main reason was the price and the air flow is great: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arctic-F12-...TF8&qid=1408140909&sr=8-1&keywords=120+mm+fan

That will do the job and it's cheaper :)

I just didn't fancy a LED one as at night etc, would be a pain having to manually change!

So, I have installed this one - have any of you guys had experience with PST system? I can, from what I gather, daisy chain my cpu fan and back case fan - not sure why I would want to when I have enough room for them seperate?

The new fan is excellent. May get another fan for the top, but not enough room I think, so may get a side one!

Side note: I caught the cable for my cpu fan, and it didn't start spinning. Didn't notice, had lunch and came back to 65c, close to meltdown!

I have an issue, a separate one, with one of my front USB ports only providing power and no data? The 3.0 works, but not the standard 2.0. Odd! I know this is the wrong place, but I will ask here just in case. Could it be software side?
