Temperature problems with my GTX260?

TBH i'd track some low profile L shaped sata leads and try to install it in the top slot. It would then benefit a lot more from more space and the frnt 120mm fan blowing over it.

It's what i did when i had a P180 and worked very well.

Should really try and get it in the top slot, don't Nvidia cards take a big hit when in 8x mode instead of 16x unlike ATi cards.

I always thought you had to use slot 1 if only using 1 card.

I've just done a full format of Vista... card is now idling at 70*C :eek:

What the heck caused that?? Unless maybe now the idle temperature is being read "correctly" (for whatever reason).

GPU-Z confirms the card is downclocking to 2D properly (300MHz core, 100MHz memory)

Sounds like a poorly seated HSF. The reason why the fan ramps upto 100% is because its futilely trying to cool the core.

Just to say, the fan is reading correctly now as well (I think). Before the reformat it was saying idle 700rpm (40%) and load 1500rpm (100%), but that was waaaay too loud to be 1500rpm.

Now it says idle 1400rpm (40%), so I imagine load will be 3500rpm+ which is more like it...

RMA time?

Yeah Everest has a bug it seems, mine reports the 700 values etc as well. GPUz and RivaTuner are spot on though so not too fussed.

I'd go down the RMA route now yeah, short of reseating the heatsink and voiding warranty theres nothing you can do

Crysis Warhead gets my BFG 260GTX Maxcore (manually overclocked to OC2 speed right now) to 85C at the most on auto fanspeed. Is that the XFX 'XXX' edition you've got? Have you tried downclocking it to see what happens?

But HL2 Ep2 shouldn't be stressing your card that much.

Regardless its still working at full load just generating many more frames per second

40% on mine is 700RPM also....

1630 at 100% though

I just wouldn't expect HL2 to cause the fan to hit 100% or cause lockups due to overheating unless something was seriously wrong. I get much better temps in TF2 (obv similar to Ep2) than in Crysis.

What RPM is it running at though? If it is 85*C at say 40% then that is ok, but mine is hitting 90*C at 100%

Yup it is the XXX version... only clocked to 640/2300 though, so not a huge overclock. Will try downclocking and see what happens!

Fan bug in Everest

using the wrong divider from the rpm sensor I suspect.

Tried clocking it down to stock speeds (576/1242/1998), still hitting 87*C at 100% fan speed.

Tried in the top slot now (got some low profile SATA leads), and it is still hitting crazy temps at 100% fan speed. Still crashing the PC running Furmark in under 30 seconds

Been following this thread cus I have some issues with my GTX260 aswell.
I have a lot of cooling, 5 fans so definately not an airflow problem.
Might just have to wait for the HR-03 GTX - http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/vga/hr-03_gtx/product_vga_cooler_hr03gtx.html

I have the same problem with my GTX280 - idle at about 45C with 40% fan speed, but turns 100% of fan speed straight away in any 3D mode - game or furmark or 3dmark! And temps are hitting 95C in Furmark, 92C in 3dmark and 90Cs in Crysis warhead with fan blowing like a hairdrayer.
RMA'ed it and waiting for replacement right now.... I hope new one will be like others say - 40Cs idle, 60-80C load... and fan NOT at 100%...

I have a GTX260, Idle temps are 45C and load is 65C (not loads of fans in my case, just one at back blowing the air out and one at front of HDD's

So this defo sounds like a card issue.
