Hi all,

Got the system in my sig cooled with a H100i GTX (i7 4790k). I have recently bought this CPU from the MM (couple of months but have not used PC much).
It is not currently overclocked.
I am really struggling with temps - it smashes into the 100c mark and often blue screens I guess due to this. I have tried loosening, tightening, 3 lots of thermal paste, taking the side panels off, de-dusting etc etc and no better really give or take 3-4c.
Anyone have any ideas what I could try next?

Thanks

ALSO: forgot to say that the Corsair "link" utility reports 2940rpm on the pump (whether this means the pump is working I'm not sure?)

2940rpm sounds right for the pump
Which kind of means your not mounting it right
Too much thermal paste?
Not mounting the block flat?
Are you gradually tightening each nut in an X pattern?
Not fully tightening one nut then the others
Yep, X pattern. Tried so many different levels of thermal paste.

Will the pump report 2940rpm even if it is not working?

I can to be honest. Bit worrying as it may mean the CPU is a shagger??
Is it worth ordering a **** CPU cooler to test with?

Yeah I guess so. Unfortunately cannot find a stock cooler around so I have ordered a £6 arctic cooler fan to test. Unit should still be in warranty though

I would guess the CPU has been delidded in the past and either when it was posted to you or during install the heat spreader has shifted and now there is no contact between the die and the heat spreader. Or normal TIM instead of liquid metal was used under the heat spreader and it has "pumped out" under the heat and pressure.
:/ I guess the fix for this would be to "re-delid"?

I'll have a look later then when my cooler arrives. Thanks for the help so far guys

I'll post some pics up of the CPU as not really sure how to tell personally

Yeah have pinged him a message. Not an issue if it's been delidded without me knowing, guess I should have asked before!

If it's not been delidded then it's more than likely that the crap Intel thermal paste has "gone off". When I got my old 4790k the temps were just ridiculous so I decided to delid it. When I got the IHS off I found that the thermal paste had set like concrete. I cleaned it up and put some liquid metal between the die and IHS and then refitted the IHS using liquid gasket on the inside edge of the IHS and not on the surface that contacts the IHS so that I could get as good heat transfer as I possibly could. Between the IHS and block I stuck with Kryonaught. Doing that knocked a whopping 25 degrees C off the load temps.

Yeah I had thought so
I don't have a vice or anything at home though so it will be v difficult for me to delid at home, and that I have no experience doing it!

Asked the gent I bought it off the MM - he said it hasn't been delidded to his knowledge so cooler is next on my list to try
