Temperature sensor.

I'm currently in the process of building my first watercooling loop and I'm using Monsoon fittings.

I am waiting to see what the pricing of the Asus VI Formula board comes out at but flicking through the Japanese manual (it was that on Chinese) on the ROG support site I noticed it had a temperature header on the motherboard.


Having never watercooled or even used a temperature sensor in a PC of mine before is it as simple as buying a Monsoon lighting port, buying the temperature sensor and plugging it into the motherboard or would I need to buy a control unit to know the coolants temperature?

On their website it says

Bit of a sweeping statement, I like to know my coolant temperature as that along with component temperatures lets me know what's happening with each loop.

The temperature header is usually used with the fan control of the motherboard (either hardware or software) to give you active control of the motherboard fan headers. You could for example (dependant on the motherboard) have a couple of fans on a rad linked to a temperature probe in the loop
so that if the loop temp rises so does the fan speed on the rad(s). You need to look at the motherboard specs to see what it can and cannot do in relation to headers etc and how you want to run/setup your loop.

That's what I thought :confused:

The Asus Formula VI has the water block on the motherboard as standard so I'd hope it has a few of those features :)
 
I bought the XSPC colured temp sensors to match the red build I am doing because I too want to know the temp of the coolant, that rising or conversely falling could give you a clue to issues in the loop.
