Good evening all,

thank you in advance for your help.

I have recently swapped my pc case and am now not sure if the pc is running too hot.

I play a lot of iracing and can spend 3-4 hours in session.

My pc spec is as follow:

CPU - Intel i7 950 @ 3.05GHz
Ram- 12.0 GB Triple channel @ 533MHz
Motherboard - Asus Rampage extreme III (LGA1366)
Graphic- GeForce GTX 1070
CPU cooler - Coolit Eco ALC
4 x 120mm fans up front
1x 120mm fan in rear
1x 120mm fan in top attached to Coolit Eco ALC radiator

when I am just browsing the web, listening to music etc, the temps as per speccy are as follows:

CPU- 50 degrees c
Motherboard -- 46 degrees c
Graphic card - 49 degrees c

after a gaming session the temps rise to as follows:

CPU - 71-72 degrees c
Motherboard - 59-60 degrees c
Graphics card - 67 degrees c

my pc crashed the other day mid gaming, it was a very hot day and the room was hot, I am wondering if it crashed because of pc temps? It hasn't done it again since

do the above temps look excessive? what is an ideal running temp when gaming?

thanks again

regards

Matt

It just could be a one off temps are fine, open your room door and windows if you haven't done this already.

Try taking your side panel off and see if your temps drop, if it does means poor case air flow.

If you have a portable fan point it towards your desk area will help circulate the air around it.

This week will make any PC temps increase unless you've got aircon throughout the house.

Those temps don't seem too high for air cooling.

The first obvious thing is make sure your fans are all cleaned. You could also repaste the CPU, chipset and GPU.

Those temps aren't too bad you could maybe get them down 10deg at most but not too shabby.

I was getting up to and just over 90c on my 4790k ( no OC) , so I removed it...until this hot spell passes and retest it to see if there is an issue with the cpu itself or its just down to the heat we are getting.

As already said, make sure fans, filters, cooler radiator, etc are all clean with no lint restricting airflow.
By the way, nice old system. I'm still running a 920 and a 980x in two of my systems. Have newer 6700k and hoping to get a Ryzen for testing coolers, but my 920 @ 4.2Ghz has served me well as a cooler test station and lots of other work. :D

Thanks everyone for your replies.

A little update:
All components in the pc, fans, filters are all free front dust. I ran the pc last night without the side panel on and the temps dropped around 1 degree.

With some fans going in the room last night the room temperature was 29 degrees c.

Would adding any extra fans to the case help cool it a bit more?

The gaming temps you posted are not extreme for a 26-29c room, but your idle temps are 15-20c warmer than I would expect.

29c is quite warm .. like 6-7c warmer than most of us like our rooms. That means component temps on an air cooled rig are going to be 7c hotter than normal.

Best way to monitor case airflow temps is with a remote sensor thermometer .. something like low cost digital indoor /outdoor wire lead to sensor that sell for 4-7 quid on ebay and similar. You might find this link to basic guide to airflow how to setup case for lowest temps and what I use to monitor airflow temps helpful:
