Hi all
I will be making a psu shroud for my partners pc, and I have an idea for a logo that I want to use, but it's all different colours.
My plan would be to apply the logo to the back of the shroud, paint it black, then remove sections of the logo and paint it the relevant colours.

My question though, is what is the best way to get a logo / design printed onto sticky paper, is there some special software, it companies that can do this?

Cheers, Jason

Do you just want the logo sticky, or do you want it cut into pieces for the various stages of spraying? For the latter, you want a vinyl sticker, cut with a plotter

Cheers for your reply.
I would like it cut into pieces for the different stages of painting.
Do you know if there are companies that would do this kind of thing?
Sorry if its a dumb question, i've never done anything like this before.

Typically it's something signwriting companies would do, or possibly graphics design/printers, who would do stickers for promotions etc.

I had a quick search, seems there are lots of places you could upload your own artwork. You'd need to prepare it into vector graphics format (rather than a simple image, something that defines lines and paths specifically with vectors). Some companies will offer this design/file conversion as a service for an extra fee when ordering. I've never used any of these services myself so couldn't recommend one, sorry!

Thanks for your help, it gives me a good starting place to look around.

Cheers

As above we all work in vector, the time costs to convert a raster based image to vector are usually not cost effective if it’s complex (it’s a time thing, automatic results can work fine on simple designs but design it in vector and you will get a better result), but bear in mind that on small pieces a simple design will be easier to weed and more likely to succeed, tolerance on plotters varies and fine detail also depends on the film used. Also stencil film is not the same as ‘vinyl’, it’s also quite likely to lift paint if you use the wrong type due to the adhesive properties.

Am I right in assuming that vector is basically editing an image which then tells the plotter where to cut?
(sorry if its a stupid question)

Vector is basically the tool path for the plotter to cut or as you look at it on screen an outline. Inkscape will do vector work or CorelDraw/illustrator, you want to exposer as an eps.

Cheers for clearing that up, I think I need to look into this a lot more before I do it lol.

Cheers again.

Post a link to the logo, the size you need it at, from that I can tell you if it’ll work or what changes need to be made, if it’s easier feel free to drop me a pm.
