hi im gonna be building my new pc next week and i was wondering if theres anyway i can get an operating system with out buying vista. im gonna be getting windows7 when it comes out but thats in a month or so and i dont want to buy 2 operating systems.

i know theres a free upgrade option when you buy vista but i dont want vista. xp is good but it costs £60 and i herd you cant an direct upgrade to windows7 with it.

so any solutions would be a god send as my computer is expensive enough.

so can i do a clean install using windows rc and would all my games/applications work? cus i know it aint the full version

Bledd,

You are absolutely correct -- downloading the Windows 7 RC is a great suggestion. Just one thing to bear in mind: If you wish to try Windows 7, you may want to hurry up and download Windows 7 RC while you still can. Come August 15th the Win 7 download will no longer be available. The Win 7 RC can be downloaded directly from Microsoft
If you enjoy your experience with the RC version of Win7, you can now pre-order your copy of Windows 7 for a discounted price! For more information, see the Windows 7 Pre-Order offer page

^^^Uhhhhhhh Ohhhhhhhh!

Microsoft are spying on us!!!:D

Edit: Also, isn't Microsoft in this instance a competitor as OcUK also sell OS's. My head hurts.

all the information she's giving is already on the forums, it's healthy for the forums to have members from actual companies.

the same way there's people on here from BFG, Corsair etc

When Windows 7 is out, do you have to do a fresh install of it if you have the RC, or can you just 'upgrade' so to speak?

There is a thread here regarding doing a in-place upgrade from the Windows 7 Release Candidate to the final release. However, I'm not quite sure how reliable it is. Though, I would highly recommend, as the majority of people would, to do a clean installation and not upgrading from pre-release software.

I'm so surprised that there are so many people wanting to do an upgrade from the Release Candidate of Windows 7.
