One friend of mine will not have broadband, cause she is moving to another provider. Can you tell if she can use any cheap dial up access in the meantime?

I saw this one - uk2.net.

Let me ask about the broadband as well. She is moving from AOL and I don't know what to recommend to her. She wants to pay no more that 16 pounds per month with no monthly usage (she uses probably no more that 5GB per month) and the speed can be even 512Kbit/s. Just cheap price for evening after work browsing. That's it. I am thinking about Tiscalli 1Mbit/s offer. Anything better?

Stay away from Tiscali...I hear speeds and customer support are APPAULING, if you look over at ADSLguide.org you should see the full extent of this. As for an uncapped ISP, see if UKonline operate in her area, then get her a nice 1mb package for £11.99 i think(Don't quote me on this, haven't been on their site in ages).

:)

I refined my search to:

NDO - 512Kbit/s (11 pounds) or 1Mbit/s(16 pounds) with 10GB traffic per month. The good thing is that they offer 1 month contract, so you can cancel any time (some fees apply)

UK Online - 1Мbit/s (10 pounds per month + 25 pounds connection charge) or 2Mbit/s (15 pounds) with no traffic limit.

Tiscali - 1Mbit/s for 15 pounds per months with no limits.

I still need some cheap dialup for her. Any ideas?

Also I was wondering why AOL has told her that she doesn't need MAC code. I think they are fooling her

If your moving provider you only loose net access for a couple of hours using the mac code transfer thingy so no need for DU

:)

The real problem is there has been no internet for 2 days (I can expect more days without) and AOL told me they are moving her from BT to them  or something like that.

These ISPs are all idiots. Today I spoke with UK Online and when I asked the guy how quickly she will be connected with the MAC code he said up to 10 days

UK Online has dialup without contract for 7 pounds per month (just for the first 2 months). Not so bad while she gets the adsl

just pay for the cost of at 0845 call - you dont even need to sign up!

excellent as a backup incase the BB goes down!

Wow, thanks man.

Just one final question: How much will she be charged for using 0845 638 9608? She is on Option 1 with BT, which states:

Only 5.5p for evening and weekends calls you make in the UK - for up to an hour each call
3p a minute for daytime calls anywhere in the UK

So after 6pm each day and weekends she will pay just 5.5p per hour?
And 3p per minute each weekday before 6pm?

She wont get the 5.5p per hour deal on internet numbers mate. BT are quite funny with dial up numbers on that offer and as far as I'm aware that wont work. It'll be 1.5/1p a minute.

We have unix box here that we sometimes dial into, on a local number and that won't work with option 1. (well it works but people get charged). I wonder how they know its data
