What is the weakest strength mix that I can get away with to securely bed a 900 x 600 stone slab on 6 engineering bricks?

We're unsure whether we want a door step outside our front door, so before ripping up the old concrete slabs and laying a stone path, I'm planning to simply bed down a slab at the intended height until I start work in a few weeks time.

I only have one spare slab, so I will need to knock off the old mortar and reuse the slab.

6-1? 7-1?

Not that it's something that people usually have lying around (unless you are a murderer) but you can use lime instead of cement in the mix as it doesn't really set. When I did my apprenticeship a life time ago we would use it at college to build our little walls as they can knock them down a day or too later and clean the bricks for reuse.

Good idea, I forgot about lime mortar.
