Evening all,

After my computer turning off on its own last week and not being able to turn in back on i tried a new power supply and done the relevant troubleshooting by trying with a single stick of ram, removing the graphics card but still no joy.
So i narrowed it down to the motherboard.

Bought a new motherboard but was still having the same error so i managed to get hold of another computer off a friend with the same socket motherboard and processor, turns my processor and original motherboard is faulty.
How strange for both of them to fail exactly the same time?

So i now have a broken motherboard a Asus P8P67 Pro, A broken cpu a i7 2600k and a brand new working motherboard a Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3

One member suggested that i wait until Skylake gets released which is probably the end of 2015 beginning of 2016 which i think is a good idea.

But i need a temporary replacement motherboard and CPU to last me until then, any suggestions on what i should do?

I could keep the Gigabyte board and by a used i5 2500k for around £80 like someone has already suggested.
But i have spoke to the shop i bought the Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3 from and they're happy to refund me so i could go for something completely different?
The Gigabyte board cost me £150

What do you think i should do?

Thanks

O

By all means return the motherboard.. £150 will easily get you a Motherboard + CPU.

Secondhand wise a 2500k and motherboard should be around £130-£150..

£150 for a Z77 sounds like a rip off.

This is cheaper,

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £61.99
1 x Intel Pentium K Anniversary G3258 Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £57.59
Total : £129.18 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Can overclock the CPU.

Then swap it out for a used 4690K etc.

Looks just what im looking for,

only reason i bought the gigabyte z77 as it was the only one i could find apart from a asrock extreme4 and that had a lot of bad reviews and cost £100

And then to find out the cpu was also faulty i wasn't having the best of weeks lol

Thanks for the help much appreciated.

Do you have an aftermarket heatsink? the CPU comes with a retail one, but if you have a better one then use it.

Also what PSU are you using? it could be this that is taking out your stuff.

You dont have access to the members market do you as your post count is too low even under the old rule?

The alternative is of course go AMD.
