Hi guys,
I'm just wondering what could be happening with my computer (spec in sig).
The other day as I went to cook dinner I left it running and after XX mins it logged out as usual (windows 7). When I got back and logged back in it said I had no network connection so I ran the troubleshooter and it said windows couldn't find a driver for the network adapter, in fact I couldn't even find the onboard network adapter in the device manager. I restarted and still had the same problem, I then turned it off cold and flicked the switch on the back of the PSU for a few seconds then turned it back on and all was well. I put that down to a random funny 5 minutes.
Then today while away it logged off again and I got the same problem, so turned the machine off. When I tried to turn it back on again the power LED turned on and all fans span up for about a second then stopped, it didn't even reach the POST beeps, maybe 5 or so seconds after I'd pressed the power button when all the HDDs and fans had stopped the power LED gave a little flicker but still nothing (possibly some residual power left in some caps/inductors). Turned it off at the PSU again then tried a number of times, still nothing.
So now I'm sure something isn't right and I took the side panel off to have a look around, nothing looked out of place (and I hadn't actually touched anything) so I tried the power button on the motherboard a few times and the same happened, life for a second then nothing. Then on the 4th or 5th try with the mobo pwr button it sprang into life. It's running now and I'm posting from it.
Any ideas what could have caused that? It just seems strange that I didn't actually do anything and it's working again. I'm not sure ff the loss of the onboard LAN is linked to the failure to boot up but it could well be a driver issue that's unrelated.
I'm thinking maybe PSU (Corsair HX520) but I'll have a proper poke around tomorrow when it's lighter to double check for loose connections and probably plug in the motherboard POST error LCD screen too which may shed some light if it happens again. Could be loads of things really which is why I thought I'd ask you chaps![Smile :) :)](/styles/default/xenforo/vbSmilies/Normal/smile.gif)
EDIT: ok it seems that other people have had similar problems in the windows 7 forums and turning off "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the network adapter's properties in the device manager may help with that problem, will see how it goes.
