Morning All,

To cut a long story short, one of our users at work has a reoccurring problem of being logged in to a temporary profile on Windows XP. A list below is what I have tried to resolve the issue but no avail!.

- Install MS hotfix
- Log on remotely and delete the temp profiles from local disc - docs & settings then from recycle bin
- Delete the temp profile registry keys
- Run our GP update and reboot

The above fixes the issue for about 2 days at the most. In the end I decided to re-install XP on the users machine so he has a fresh image but the issue still occurring? Obviously when the user isnt on the network we are unable to log in as admin remotely to delete and apply temp fix.

Now I'm stuck, and I dont know what is causing the issue let alone how to resolve permanently. Have you any ideas?.

There may be the posibility of just imaging a machine with Win7 on as we have a couple of builds out with this on and the issue doesnt seem to occur on this OS?.

I've not worked in a domain environment for a while, but from what I remember, we used to have this problem on machines that had failing hard drives.

Try replacing the hard drive and see if that sorts it out. May be worth checking the ram too to make sure it's not corrupting the profile files on exit.

Oh believe me, it happens on Windows 7 too. Which registry entries are you deleting?

Wow, apologies in the delay!

Off the top of my head because im at home atm it's:

-hkey local machine
- software
- microsoft
-windows NT
-profile list

and then we just delete the registy key for the temp profile.

The only problem is it's happening with multiple machines and is intermitent.

What should I check for on hard drive - run chkdsk?
and RAM why would that effect it?
