Hi Guys,

Just looking for a temporary cheap upgrade for my Dell XPS 710.

Quad Core 2.4ghz
4gb RAM
Currently got a Nvidia GTX260 at 896MB RAM
I believe my motherboard is a Dell 0UY253 A00

Looking to buy a 2gb Nvidia GT 640.

I think my motherboard is a PCI-E x16 1.1. Will the GT 640 PCI-E 3.0 fit in this, and work?

Look forward to your help.

Cheers

Marc

Sorry, to clarify, the reason I asked info on this card is I need it to be DX11 just to at least be able to run Crysis 3.

Is PCI 3.0 card backwards compatible to a PCI 1.0 motherboard

In theory the 640 should work fine in your machine, although it sounds like you may need a mainboard/CPU/memory upgrade that's more urgent!?

A GT640 would at best be a sidegrade and at worst be significantly slower than your current card depending on game, with the only benefits coming in the form of lower power consumption.
