Hey Folks,

Just a quick question about tempratures.

The 4 cores on my i5 2500k are reporting back an idle temp of 35c (avg) 4.4Ghz Overclock with is nice and stable (eventually!!)

So, i thought how can i bring this down a bit. So i have done the following:

Made sure the cables do not obscure the flow of air around main components

Added 2nd fan to front of case - So now 2x fans sucking air in

CPU Cooler is a Noctua DH-14 with both fans pushing air towards the back of the case

Fan at the rear of the case sucking air out.

Room temp is about 22c

If i take the side of the case off, the Nocuta rad fins are cool the inside of the case is nice and cool etc.

Popped the Noctua off, cleaned and reapplied Noctua Thermal Paste on the CPU to make sure... Old paste had a good spread on the CPU and looked consistant.

So after all this my CPU cores still remain at 35c on idle. Woudl have thought it would have dropped by at least a couple of c.

CPU voltage is at 1.356 and idling core speed down to 1604mhz.

Cant think of what else i could do to improve CPU core temps? Ideas?

That sounds hot for an nh-d14. What are your load temps? Do you really need all that voltage for 4.4? How many exaust fans do you have?

Why are you worried about idle? 35C is fine anyhow, your ambient temp plays a big part too. Load it up with prime95 or LINX etc.. and check your load temps which are the most important. And yes, some 2500k need a fair bit of vcore for 4.4-4.5Ghz.

1 exhaust fan on the back of the case.
2 sucking in on the front of the case.

5 runs of IBT on high and the max temp on the cores peaks at 71c, average is about 68c for the test.

The Overclock is pretty much everything on auto and the multiplier at 44x. It took ages to get it stable at 4.4ghz but this was the most stable way.

Even if i go back to mobo defaults at 3.3 on the chip, it only drops the core temps to about 32c

Cool (excuse the pun)

I thought i was being a bit concerned over nothing. Ill leave it and have fun!!

Cheers :)
